Pottery of Maine is a small batch practice rooted in place, time, and material.

The clay used here is gathered from the coast and river systems of Maine — oceanic clay left behind by massive glacial movement that shaped this landscape. Your pottery that carries the memory of where it was found and the conditions it was gathered.

The work is made in small batches that follow the seasons.

Each batch story begins with digging clay and continues when each piece leaves the workshop and arrives at your home. While general shapes and color ways will repeat, no two batches are entirely the same, just like the changing rhythm of the seasons and nature where they originated. As a Patron, you become part of that story.

For many years, this work has lived between two worlds: seasonal patrons who return time and again, and large wholesale orders that require hundreds of pieces for me to deliver at once. While both have supported the pottery, that balance has often meant that long-time supporters had to wait, or miss out, when the work moved quickly toward wholesale deadlines. This Patreon community exists to change that by keeping each supporter connected to the origin.

It creates a way for people to step inside the process — from ground to table — and to have priority access to the work as it’s being made. Members see the wild clay before it’s fired, the kiln load before it’s opened, and the process of this handmade pottery coming to be.

There is no expectation to purchase or collect quickly. Some people follow along through studio notes. Some become patrons and receive mugs over time while others choose to build a full table piece by piece. All these ways of being here are welcome.

As this story unfolds you get to have a front row seat to the start. By joining at any level, you become part of that beginning. If you choose to support Pottery of Maine’s growth as a patron collector, once in your home each mug, plate or bowl takes life in its most important part of the story as they become shaped by you and your daily use.

I’m glad you’re here and I’m looking forward to what we are build together.

Cheers! -Jon
