Hand Made to be used
The way pottery should be, producing a line of functional and simply decorated ware using the local earth, just as the early potters settling in New England did. Pots that are hand crafted to encourage daily use and connection. All designs are meant to capture the flavor of the season without hiding the natural beauty of this Maine oceanic clay, leaving real space for you to find your own connection as your hand finishes it’s story daily.
From utilitarian pottery made with clay dug near our homestead in North Yarmouth Maine to place mats and reusable napkins, the relationship to local land has been a driving force behind the motivation to share these functional pieces of art. Items that are intended to end up in your hand daily, or on the dinner table serving the farmer's harvest. Unlike factory ware each piece is unique, intentionally serving a healthy relationship with nature, resiliency, food and each other.
Our food safe glaze is formulated to fit the maturity of this wild clay when processed and fired is drawn from generations of experience working with this this unique clay (from the “Presumscot Glacial Formation”) which adds to the durability of each kitchen and heirloom piece.
About
Jonathan Lamarche first began selling his pottery in 2014 at the shop him and Gina opened in Wayne, ME - Old Firehouse Farm. The seasonal cafe became a regular destination for locals and summer visitors eager to enjoy coffee and homemade baked goods on the the porch overlooking mill pond at pocasset lake.
Old Firehouse Farm went on to successfully host monthly farm to table dinners on the porch (always filled up at seating for 18 tables), sourcing from area farmers and producers.
Until 2019 when they moved to North Yarmouth, Jonathan was able to apprentice on the potter’s wheel with Molly Saunders and learn about processing and utilizing this local Maine clay with the Saunders family at Wayne Village Pottery. Now a multiple generation pottery where Sam Saunders and family continue growing the tradition supplying one of a kind ornaments to shops across the country. Sam and Jonathan continue to discuss glazes formulations regularly as they hone the best methods in advancing the use of local clay.
